Abstract

The structure and morphology of electrochemically-derived metal-matrix composite obtained by embedment of redox-active MoO3 : V2O5 oxide particles in the galvanic nickel was investigated. The electron microscopic studies of electrochemically grown composite films and fractal analysis of atomic-force microscopic images provide an evidence that the efficiency of nucleation of matrix metal on the MoO3 : V2O5 particles is dependent on its redox activity yielding fine closely packed crystallites. The resultant composite film Ni – 0.6MoO3 : 0.4V2O5 film demonstrates radically improved (as compared to bare galvanic nickel) wear-resistant and corrosion resistant properties.
