The Second All-Russian Congress of Orthodox military and navy clergy of 1917

The Second All-Russian Congress of military and navy clergy, which was held in July 1917 in the city of Mogilev is considered. The reasons of its carrying out and features of its organization are regarded. It is established how the revolutionary events of February 1917 influenced on the agenda of the congress (for example the introduction of the principle of election in the military and navy clergy department). In addition the position of the clergy of the army according to political activities and support of political parties and organizations is shown. The attitude of the clergy to current events and how to present these events in sermons is revealed. The questions which are put to the congress are listed and the analysis of the most important of them is given (for example questions of charity, charity activities and wearing of a secular dress, the education of a priest of the department, personnel issues, reorganization of the printed organ «Vestnik voennogo i morskogo dukhovenstva»). The author gives evaluation to the congress and the reasons why the congress could not make positive changes in the position of the priest in the army are called.
