Abstract

Traced the main stages and directions of research of XX – beginning of XXI century at the Department of history of Russia of Belarusian state University on the history of Russia. The study of the history of Russia began with the opening of the Belarusian State University in 1921 and is associated with the name of its first rector V. I. Picheta. The Belarusian historians specialising in Russian history worked under difficult political conditions in the 1920–30s. In subsequent decades, historians at the University have reduced their interest in Russian history, focusing on the problems of history of Belarus. Only since the mid-1970s there was a return to the study of various aspects of Russian history. It concerns the problems of the XIX – early XX century associated with the name of Professor I. V. Orzechowskiy. Shows the formation of restored in 1998 the Department of Russian history school of specialists in Russian history. The main directions of modern researches and teaching experience of teachers in the Department are considered in the article. They are associated with a wide chronological and thematic range, from issues of taxes and tribute in the Ancient period of Russian history to the causes and consequences of Stalinism; from the foreign circumstances of formation of the Russian statehood to the modern political processes in post-Soviet space. Still actively studied Russian history of the XIX century. Research harmoniously complement the content of General professional discipline «History of Russia and Ukraine», all sorts of disciplines of specialization and elective courses for students of the Belarusian State University.
