Vector of development of Belarusian print media for children in the 1990s

The article defines the main vector of press development for the younger generation in the 1990s and reveals the nature of its influence on the further formation of the system of children’s media in Belarus. The author substantiates the relevance of the study of the activities of children’s media in the context of the radical socio-political, economic and cultural reorganisation of the Belarusian state system after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Based on the analysis of quantitative data of the release of Belarusian children’s periodicals in 1992–1999, for the first time the author identifies the content features and typological structure of Belarusian newspapers and magazines for children, as well as the trends of transformation of the domestic media system for children. The article reflects the results of the analysis of the content specificity of the press with new typological properties, identifies quantitative and qualitative characteristics of print media for children. The scientific novelty of the article is to identify new aspects of the functioning of Belarusian newspapers and magazines for children in the post-perestroika period, as well as to determine the typological features of the first children’s periodicals based on the collection and synthesis of data on the number of print media in Belarus, their circulation and founders in the 1990s.
