Abstract

In the context of a complex linguistic analysis of mixed martial arts subdiscourse, the features of sports journalism are studied. It is noted that the mixed martial arts subdiscourse can be described using the terms «entertainment discourse», «advertising discourse» and «hype discourse», which emphasises its hybrid nature. Such features of sports journalism as dialogue, emotionality, colloquialism, ellipticity, linguistic creativity, metaphorism and interdiscursivity are established. Further study of specific, narrowly professional sports subdiscourses, is expected.
