Abstract

The paper considers fictional space model represented in the novel of JeanMichel Guenassia as a city communication  practice «the third place». Though this of form of interpersonal communication came into the limelight three decades after  the described fictional events, «Le Club des incorrigibles optimists» can be treated as the prototype of the «the third place» in the cityscape system. It shows the reflection of the peculiarities of the club members’ interests, values, behavioral patterns, and lifestyle. They are current Parisians, political immigrants from Eastern Europe and they share the fate of outcasts who are  doomed to the life of homeless and cast off people. The club is viewed as a part of the alien city fictional space, where they get  the hope to obtain a home in the foreign country. It lets the reader find the transformed senses of the traditional «third place» and perceive the hidden ideas of the novelcontinuum and its characters, including the narrator. The paper deals with the  problem of correlation between the public and private spheres of club location, the first of which is treated as the dominant because the political immigrants exchange opinions in the club and are prone to socially important communication acts.
