Reflection of ethnic stereotypes in Frantisek Bahushevich’s works and peripeteias of reception of his heritage

Abstract

The article charactrerises the features of historical and cultural situation in Belarus in the second half of XIX century, led to ethno-social conflicts, ethnic polarization and national unity of Belarusians to have been expressed by social and national problems in the works of F. Bahushevich. It analyses the writer’s works where the issues of social change in their interrelation with the system of ethnic stereotypes, associated with a negative attitude of the peasantry to other nationalities, are touched upon. It is stated that it is a reflection of the ethnic heterostereotypes that had a significant impact on the process of reception of F. Bahushevich’s heritage in the XX century, understanding of which has undergone several stages. It concerns with the practice of ideological editions of the writer in 1940–80s, reveals the essence of the conflict of 1948 in the literary sphere, the results of which determined the vector of further development of the study of Bahushevich’s works in the Soviet period, describes some aspects of the perception of F. Bahushevich’s works in the XXI century.
