The aphorism of F. I. Tyutchev «the thought uttered is a lie» is considered in this article from the point of view of the problem of the relationship between thought, word and silence presented in it. The result of the interaction of literature and philosophy in the literature of the first third of the XIX century, reflected in the concept of «thought uttered» returns back to the traditions of Old Russian art which are revealed under the layers of European philosophical thought as its undistorted, original version. The content presented in the article leads to the conclusion that the disappointment in the language of philosophical speculation, the preference of silence is identical with the apophatic meaning of Boyanʼs «intention», with which the author of «The tale of Igorʼs campaign» attempts to neutralize his influence on the architectonics of the artistic space. As a result, «the thought uttered is a lie» turns out to be a kind of translation into the language of modern culture concepts «and not according to the intention of Boyan» and is determined by their inherent common nature of worldview and artistic situations.
