Abstract

On the basis of the critical analysis of presented in the scientific literature approaches the problem points of formation of the conceptual apparatus of argumentation theory are identified. One of the main problems is that conceptual and terminological variance which takes place in argumentation theory applies not only to the peripheral, but also to the core categories of this field of knowledge. Among the possible reasons of such situation the factors of intra-linguistic as well as extra-linguistic nature are called. For Russian scientific discourse, in particular, they are non-critical perception of information, imitation of more authoritative colleagues’ research attitudes, difficulties of translation of the original (English) terminology in Russian, differences in understanding the nature of the concepts, individual author creation of words. Examples of conflicting interpretations of key argumentation notions in scientific papers are given. It is concluded that terminology variance has a dual nature: on the one hand, it reflects the problems of nomination, on the other – the problems of conceptualization. The proposition is substantiated that a research terminological system being largely a conventional form, should take into account existing scientific and linguistic traditions. The confidence in necessity of consolidated scientists’ efforts to form a unified conceptual and terminological system of argumentation theory that will contribute to quality representation and adequate evaluation of received scientific results is expressed.
