Functions of the indirect speech acts in V. V. Nabokov’s works

The article considers the sense-making load of indirect speech acts, included in the speech of personages of a literary text in the aspect of idiostyle. On the grounds of the analysis of the indirect speech acts in V. V. Nabokov’s works the idiostyle features of the writer’s prosaic works are revealed. The creation of a special socio-psychological type o characters, in the formation of whose language personalities indirect communication plays the key role, is pointed out. The author proves that the most significant stylistic functions of indirect speech acts include the creation of the artistic image of a character, the realization of the messages of a literary work, the expression of the indirect author’s evaluation, the implication of the plot-making event. A special role of the indirect representatives in the characters’ speech which is the expression of the most important in Nabokov’s system of values is noted.
