«The Red Wheel» and Solzhenitsyn’s creative legacy

Abstract

Solzhenitsyn worked on «The Red Wheel» all his life. It is the greatest book not only among his works, but also in all Russian literature of the XX century. On the basis of contextual approach and the history of creation of the epic in article communication of «The Red Wheel» with other works by the writer is considered. The objects of the research are novels, stories, journalism, ideologically and thematically related to the novel about the revolution. The purpose of the article is to identify the most important Solzhenitsyn’s ideas connecting «The Red Wheel» with all his work. It is argued that the conceptualization is based on the correlation of epic texts, novels, stories with the author’s philosophy and poetics. Solzhenitsyn’s arguments about the fate of Russia, about the role of the First World War and the February Revolution convey the author’s assessment of the disasters that destroyed the country in subsequent stages of development. The novelty of the research consists in developing a hypothesis about the integrity of Solzhenitsyn’s historical thinking, analyzes the ways of connecting and creatively embodying the key characters of works both fictional and historical. The practical significance of the positions expressed in the article will help systematically describe and summarize the universals of Solzhenitsyn’s work.
