Comparative and hermeneutic research methods are used to reach the given goal. The comparative study of the precedent musical form and interpretative analysis of the novel’s text allows the comprehension of the essence of literary and musical synthesis carried out in each of the novels. As a result of our research performed, the principles of thematic structure in the novels «The Erl King» and «The Kindly Ones», the peculiarities of the ideological and emotional evaluation (pathos) of the historical events, as well as numerous parallels, analogies, similar motifs common to both arts contributing to understanding the tragedy of the XX century incomprehensible in terms of rationality were identified.
