Abstract

The article is devoted to a comparative narratological analysis of Belarusian and American travelogues of the 1920s, using the cycle «Sibirskiya abrazki» by M. Haretski and the collection of prose, poetry and drama titled «Cane» by J. Toomer as case studies. The study examines the travelogue as a universal genre in which spatial movement, the encounter with the Other, and the traveler’s self-reflection become the foundation for the formation of narrative structure. The article demonstrates that, despite their different cultural origins, both works employ reflection on travel as a means of comprehending identity, which allows the travelogue to be seen as a universal artistic form capable of reflecting analogous models of spatial perception. The practical significance of the research lies in the development of a narratological model of analysis that can be used in subsequent structural comparative studies.
