Abstract

The paper proves the concept of the «axial» archetext as the ancient text, possessing significant axiological and artistic value and being the central part of any culture and generating new texts. It also substantiates the function of the Bible as the «axial» archetext of European culture and literature. Illustrated by the example of German modern poetry, the archetextual role of the Bible, its lyrical books mainly (The Book of Psalms, The Lamentations, The Song of Songs, Ecclesiastes), is explored in the process of the development of the national poetic tradition and the formation of religious, philosophical, civil and love lyrics.
