Intercultural communication: the specifics of construction in the conditions of transformation of the modern world

Abstract

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of intercultural communication’s building in a contemporary society. The author systematises the available research in modern humanitarian thought concerning this problem, both of English-speaking and Russian-speaking scientists, and concludes that there are two main problems in the study of intercultural communication today. The first problem is the diversity of a contemporary cultural world. The second problem is cultural specific’s manifestation in the process of intercultural communication. Basing her work on the analysed theories and concepts, as well as the challenges of modern world, the author of the article forms her own model of intercultural communication. It includes the following components: communicants, act of communication, cultural context or background, discourse. The results of the research can be used in the investigation of these problems in the humanities: cultural studies, philosophy, sociology, pedagogy, psychology.
