Abstract

We consider the main trends in the development of German culture in the context of the fin de siècle era. An overview of the basic artistic and literary movements in Germany at the turn of the 19th– 20th centuries is given. We attempt to isolate national and European trends in the development of culture in Germany in the late 19th – early 20th centuries. The interaction of cultural trends at the turn of the century and artistic trends of this period is shown. We pay particular attention to a panoramic description of the main cultural processes taking place in Germany at the turn of the century, which contributes to a deeper understanding of the interaction of artistic trends (styles) and a change in ideological attitudes inherent in the type of culture at the turn of the century. The interconnections and interpenetration of different artistic styles in Germany at the turn of the century are revealed, as well as their connection with the current social and cultural agenda.
