Motivation of labor activity and quality of labor resources of Saint-Petersburg

The article presents an analysis of statistical material on the problem of motivation of labor activity, attitudes about work and economic activity of the inhabitants of Saint Petersburg. The main socio-demographic characteristics of the population of Saint Petersburg are investigated in relation to their motivation for work. The features of relation of preferences of labor activity with gender, age, family status, education, etc. are revealed of respondents. The dynamics of economic activity and the quality of labor resources of Saint Petersburg are analyzed. During the period under review, the trend of increasing the dominance of market factors in the motivation of Saint Petersburg’s labor continued. Money (salary) becomes the main (often the only) motivator of labor activity. Changes have touched the spheres of labor application, the sphere of servicing labor is becoming more widespread, therefore, the qualifications demanded by the sphere of labor of Saint Petersburg are subject to transformation. The analysis carried out in the article made it possible to conclude that, in general, during the crisis and post-crisis period of the Russian economy, the positive dynamics of the development of the labor sphere still took place in Saint Petersburg.
