Abstract

The article is based upon the fundamental thesis that Belorussian statehood has been transformed from the political idea into political movement and historical reality after the third division of Rech Pospolitaya and the appropriation of Belorussian territories by the Russian Empire. Only then vast strata of the Belorussian population has been given the chance to send their children to the universities of Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Kiev. First nationalist movements have been formed here which formed the basis of the political parties. The author gives consistent argumentation to the idea that Belarus is a Soviet project. In the 20s the Moscow government has increased Belorussian ethnical territories, in 1939 the Western and Eastern parts of Belarus were reunited, having thus secured the territorial integrity of the country. It is the author’s conviction that major historical achievement in the sovereignty of Belarus must be defended by all means.
