Abstract

The article is based on a brief observation of history of theoretical sociology. It is shown that the development of sociological theories at the world level is characterised by several crisis features. They include the weakening of interest in the theory of leading sociologists, the fragmentation of the sociological community and professional journals, the refusal to recognise the universal models of society and laws of its development. Taken together they led to a decrease in the interest of the scientific community in sociology throughout the world. The lack of new paradigms that would be welcomed by most sociologists, with the growth of research at the micro level, also contributes to the current crisis. A society that is in a state of turbulence and unpredictability cannot offer a new theoretical model of the global development. However, at the level of individual countries and regions, such models are possible and necessary as they can unite the efforts of scholars and practitioners in reconstructing the theoretical level of sociology. The current stage of the global development requires the adequate approaches to its understanding under the new conditions.
