Abstract

Based on the results of the programme «Generations and Gender», the influence of value orientations on the realisation of reproductive attitudes in countries undergoing the second demographic transition is considered. The study identifies how new challenges are impacting family and demographic dynamics, including the transformation of ideas about family, marriage, parental and gender roles, intergenerational relationships, reproductive attitudes, and the distribution of family responsibilities. It confirms that the institution of the family continues to retain its value priority, despite significant transformations in traditional norms of family relations. A trend toward liberalisation of views on marriage, cohabitation, divorce, and parenthood is identified in various European countries, including Belarus. The need to consider these changes when developing state social policy and educational programmes aimed at preserving family values and teaching skills for constructive conflict resolution is emphasised.
