Abstract

The article analyses contemporary socio-cultural factors, influencing the formation of reproductive knowledge among Kazakhstani youth. The interaction of global challenges and local specifics such as ethnic diversity, cultural and religious norms, level of digital literacy and access to health services is studied. The World Health Organization’s concept of reproductive health, Ajzen’s theory of planned behaviour and Bandura’s social learning theory are used as a theoretical framework to help explain the mechanisms of knowledge and behaviour formation. Particular attention is paid to the impact of digitalisation on young people’s access to information. It is determined that social media and digital platforms act both as a source of knowledge and as a channel for disseminating inaccurate information. It was found that the stigma of discussing sexual health issues, limited access to verified information and the lack of targeted educational programmes are key barriers to the formation of healthy reproductive behaviour among young people. The need to develop targeted educational programmes adapted to the cultural and ethnic specificities of Kazakhstan’s population and aimed at involving families and local communities was stressed. It is recommended to improve digital literacy of young people, study gender and ethnocultural differences, overcome emotional and psychological barriers when seeking medical help. It is indicated that an integrated and interdisciplinary approach will allow to eliminate existing gaps in knowledge and improve reproductive behaviour of Kazakhstani youth.
