Academician Evgenii Mikhailovich Babosov: the personality of a scientist in an era of change (for the 95th anniversary of his birth)

Abstract

2026 February 23 marks the 95^th anniversary of the birth of outstanding Belarusian scientist, teacher and organiser of science, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Evgeny Mikhailovich Babosov. The main stages of his activity are reflected, a wide range of his creativity is noted. His development of new conceptual approaches to the study of the social structure of modern society, the sociology of change, transformational processes in society, the peculiarities of the interaction of scientific, technical and social progress, the study of the effectiveness of the functioning of the national state in post-Soviet countries, the role of religion, science, ideology, culture in the formation of national identity, his study of socio-political, cultural functioning of the sovereign Belarus. Special attention is paid to the development of the theory of catastrophes by E. M. Babosov, which comprehends the essence, features, consequences and ways to overcome the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. The contribution of E. M. Babosov to the institutionalisation of sociological science and education in Belarus, the training of highly qualified scientists, professional humanitarians, including specialists in sociology, methodological support for their training, and the publication of a series of educational literature is noted. It is stated that the talent of the scientist, the tireless creative work of E. M. Babosov earned him well-deserved authority and recognition from his contemporaries. The conclusion is made about the system-forming role of Babosov in the preservation and development of classical traditions of social science.
