Abstract

In order to qualitatively improve the analyses of factors affecting the effective development of the economics a theoretical basis is formed to determine the essence of innovation territories and their place in the world economic science. The approaches to understanding the key categories in the field of innovation research are reviewed. The prerequisites for the formation of the term «innovation territory» are revealed. The article describes the main characteristics of this phenomenon: space, boundaries, economic agents, commercial effect and activities of regulatory subjects. The classification of existing innovation territories is proposed.
