Empirical analysis of regional economic growth factors: the case of China

Abstract

Using panel data from 31 Chinese administrative regions for the period 2010–2023, we analysed the factors driving regional economic growth. Within a three-level framework including domestic accumulation, spatial transmission, and policy catalysis mechanisms, we applied fixed-effects models to establish that physical and human capital positively influence regional economic growth, labour mobility is the most robust transmission channel, and the initiative «Belt and road» enhances the effects of trade openness. The results are supported by robustness tests and serve as a basis for developing differentiated regional policies.
