Abstract

The article presents the first results of the archaeological research of the new Mesolithic site Luban-9. The settlement was discovered in 2020 by M. M. Kryvalcevich during a survey of the territory in the planned construction of a fire station in the city of Luban (Minsk Region). During the 2021–2022 field seasons the settlement was investigated on an area of 21 m2. The archaeological collection includes 820 artifacts, among which 803 are artifacts of various raw material types (flint, quartzite, quartz). Anoxic conditions of occurrence contributed to the possibility of preserving organic materials (wood, bone, etc.) on the territory of the settlement. The analysis of the stratigraphy shows the distinctiveness of the settlement among the Mesolithic antiquities of the region. The discovered materials find a wide range of analogies on the site of the Kudlaivka culture on the territory of Belarus (Aziarnoje-1, Aziarnoje-2Б, Luban-1, Luban-7, etc.). Based on the obtained radiocarbon dating, the settlement dates to the end of the 10th and the beginning of the 8th millenium BC, which corresponds to the first half of the Preboreal – the end of the second phase of the Boreal period and is chronologically related to the early Mesolithic. Thus, Luban-9 is the first settlement of the Kudlaivka culture on the territory of Belarus for which it was possible to determine the absolute age.
