Artistic comprehension of the theme of the motherland in television travel screens (on the example of the cycle «Spadchyna» by U. Karatkevich)

Abstract

The article discusses the features of the implementation of the theme of a little motherland in a travel essay, such a study is of great relevance in the context of globalization. For the first time, the series of programs «Spadchyna», founded by the classic of Belarusian literature U. Karatkevich, became the material for scientific consideration. The article provides a comparative historical analysis of the issues. The series were studied in the context of the development and technical improvement of television. The general and the particular between them and the previous time-illustrated stories, essays of film lovers and travel programs on the subject of travel («Wind of wandering», «Streets and squares tell», etc.) are highlighted. In addition, the programs of «Spadchyna» were investigated as part of the work of U. Karatkevich, in comparison with essays, and scripts of documentary films of the writer, symbols and images-leitmotifs that are common for print and television journalism of this author, are described. Such a method made it possible to clarify the features of the lexical portrait of the program’s lyrical hero, an intellectual of peasant origin, and the prospects for its use in modern television. In addition, the article identifies the characteristic features of the «Spadchyna» series intertextuality, collage character, heightened message dynamics, etc. The artistic techniques used to implement the theme of the little motherland in a travel essay, in particular, the dialogized monologue, contrast, retrospective, are considered. At the same time, the characteristic means of artistic expressiveness are defined, among which are the use of single-part sentences and the present tense in the meaning of the past, the effect of amplification of sound, reverberation, work with light. The innovations of the creators of the «Spadchyna» program were emphasized: the means of artistic expressiveness were highlighted that they began to be used among the first, for example, the input of colloquial and dialectal words, artistic symbolism in the design of the studio, and the inclusion of plot pictures in the release. The prospects for the use of allocated funds in modern audiovisual space are substantiated. Their role in preserving the historical, cultural and spiritual heritage is emphasized, which is of particular relevance in the Year of the Little Motherland.
