The language and functional-stylistic features of representative in B. Pasternak’s letters to E. Pasternak are revealed. The methods of influencing the addressee, which most clearly characterize the personality of the communicants, are considered. This, in the first place – the characteristics of the addressee, assessment of the author’s own condition, evaluation of the addressee’s appearance, self-characterization of the author, evaluation of the addressee’s condition. The analysis of representations made it possible to establish both general (treatment, comparison, use of abstract nouns) and private (substantive lexemes with an appraisal value and negative connotations combined with short and complete forms of adjectives, stylistically reduced vocabulary, emotionally colored verb lexemes, Figures of speech, lexical repetitions, as well as series of homogeneous sentence members) features of the linguistic design of the techniques of interest to us.
