Provocativeness in internet communication: the problem of concept defining
Abstract
This article examines the history of the concept of «provocativeness» and the chronology of its use in Russian-language scientific sources. Based on the analysis of psychological publications which texts contained the term «provocativeness», the three main meanings of this term are highlighted (depending on the context of its use): in the texts of various authors, the term «provocativeness» can be considered as a synonym for the phrase «motivating for reaction» in neutral connotation, as a psychological effect with a stimulating potential (in positive connotation), as well as a hyponym for the term «manipulative» in neutral connotation. The author’s definition of the concept «provocativeness» in the context of Internet communication is proposed.
