Abstract

The main focus of this work is on the search for interaction between theory and practice of design in the current situation. The aim of the article is to show that design research should be based on a deep understanding of design as a unique human activity, which includes both theoretical reflection and practical implementation. The article deals with the specifics of design research, its formation and development strategy. Based on the comparison of the concept of complexity in science and design, it is argued that science is not the best place to find approaches and methods of approach to design complexity. Instead, it concludes that any attempt at interaction between design studies to obtain results aimed at supporting design practice must be based on a fundamental understanding of the nature of design practice. This understanding can be developed into a reasonable and rich set of rigorous and disciplined design methods and techniques that meet the needs and desires of practicing designers.
