Two strategies for reading the project of the eternal peace by I. Kant: cosmopolitanism vs statism
Abstract
It is noted that in the 20th and 21st centuries the political ideas of I. Kant, in particular his project of eternal peace, not only did not lose their importance, but also served as the basis for the creation of a number of programmes and projects designed to build equal interstate relations and ensure global security. The project of eternal peace by I. Kant has repeatedly become the object of controversy by representatives of various philosophical concepts. An attempt is made to consider two opposing concepts of interpretation of the thinker’s political philosophy. Proponents of the cosmopolitan concept rely on those provisions of I. Kant, in which the decisive role in ensuring global peace is assigned to interstate associations. Supporters of the statist concept not only refute the views of their opponents, but also doubt that I. Kant himself adhered to the cosmopolitan point of view.
